No sleep for me last night. I tossed and turned all night long just thinking of our poor home and what is to come. Every scenario crossed my mind. Windows breaking....water everywhere....robbers....leaky roof...all our stuff ruined. I am frightened. I'm scared out of my mind to return. I'm hoping for the best. But as I watch the news and read reports...it's hard to be positive. I can't imagine what we are going to have to face after this is all over. I hate Ike. I wish this massive storm would disappear. Please...please pray for Galveston!

Stephanie,
We're praying hard for everyone. I know the feeling of impending "doom". It is so scary. We had to evacuate for Rita and then at the last minute it didn't hit us directly. I remember when we came home, Galveston looked so deserted and yucky, and it wasn't even hit directly. Mainly shingles off roofs, signs blown down, a few fences and tree limbs broken, what was even weirder (word?) was when we went to the store all the shelves were bare. It was like a ghost town, very creepy. You're in our hearts and prayers, we're watching the weather channel continuously. We'll pray that the sea-wall can stand up to this big beast coming! Keep us posted with your status and your findings when you come back. We're praying for you all.
I must be living in a hole because I just heard about IKE today. My first thought was to check your blog and thank heavens you are in Fort Worth. Our prayers are with you guys and all of your friends.
As I was reading this post and the previous I got a little emotional. I know you guys are out of there but I just feel for you guys and how you must be feeling. I know I don't understand because I've never had to go through it but just reading what you are going through made me get emotional.
Love you guys and I hope and prayer that you are able to go home and find everything ok.
I'll definitely be keeping your family and your island in my prayers! I'm glad your safe and sound in Fort Worth now.
They've put a curfew into effect for the island--8pm to 5am--and the police are staying through the storm, so the houses should all be well protected from looting.
Here's a webcam looking down ferry farther from your house (your house is at one of the highest points on the island, actually, built up after Carla in 1961).
Our landlords did some work to the house we're in (built after WWII, so it's been through Carla in 61 and Alicia in 83), and they said there was little to no water damage on the original wood in the house. So with your house being higher, and newer, your little home can probably weather more than you think :)
steph, i have been thinking about you so much the last few days! i'll be praying for you and your home! be sure and update when you know anything new.
glad you are safe!
let us know if you hear anything more about pictures of the east end, flooding and damage in our area. i am so glad we live on the highest point of the island. things should be better than on the west end or in the bay area.
we're grateful you guys are safe.
We are praying for you and everyone affected by this storm. I am very glad to hear that you are safe!
