We're Home!!

I am finally posting! Yay. And great news...I finally had the baby! As you read previously I'm sure. Thanks for all your thoughts and comments. We are so happy that our little boy arrived! We were getting anxious. I thought I would write a little about everything that happened...I always enjoy hearing about different people's experiences. So here goes....
My actual due date based on my cycle was May 20...but based on measurements from the sonograms I had, they bumped it up to May 11. Well...I should know that both are just rough guesses and the baby pretty much comes whenever he/she wants. Cardston came right on time...May 17. We pretty much put our lives on hold waiting for the special day to arrive. Ev has been out of school since May 2. We have been having fun too. On Friday, we cleaned the apartment really well and took an afternoon nap. I was super tired (thank goodness I did...I had one long night ahead of me). When we woke up we went grocery shopping and ran some errands. I started having regular contractions that were 7 minutes apart. I'll have you know that at this point I was dilated to a 3 and 75% effaced. While shopping I was having them come every 5 minutes but just kind of ignored them (although painful). We got home and carried the groceries up our 3 flights of stairs. I sat down to time the contractions. I could tell they were pretty close and getting stronger. Sure enough they were 3 minutes apart. I had Ev pack up Brampton's stuff and we dropped him off at our friends (thanks again Cassidy). It was between 8 and 9 pm that we got to the hospital (contractions every 2 minutes now). Of course, I had to do paper work and wait to be taken back to be checked and monitored. Come to find out I was still a 3, but 90% effaced. Midwife said I was paper thin. However, they had no rooms available for me...so I had to walk for 2-3 hours. Let me just say that it was horrible. The contractions got worse until I could not take it anymore. I told Ev that there was no way I could walk any longer. We headed back at 11:30 pm to be checked out again. I was hoping that I had made some progress. Come to find out...I was a 4 and the head was there. Lucky me they had a room open!!! Few. A sigh of relief. The midwife asked me what my birthing plan was...my response....epidural ASAP! No joke. I was serious.
It wasn't until 3 am that I got the epidural! Come to find out...he never even got their page!!! Can you belief that??? 5 minutes before he showed up...I told Ev to pray hard that he comes soon...I couldn't take it anymore. His prayer was answered...very quickly! Well I got the epidural...a little scary...b/c he told me that he might not have done it right and kept sticking the needle in deeper. Come to find out....my whole left side still had feeling!!! I think I felt good for a total of 15 min. This made for an interesting experience. So from 3-4 am I went from a 4 to a 10. I started feeling a whole lot of pain by then....the midwife checked me and said...oh...that's b/c your baby is here and ready to come out. I pushed for about 40 min. I felt everything! And I mean everything! But it sure was amazing to experience this again. It's funny how you forget all about the pain so quickly. Ev was able to cut the cord....that was neat. I was able to help clean him off as soon as he came out. I was so relieved to have him out and to not feel the horrible pain!
Well...that was our birthing story in a nut shell. It was so fun...well...maybe not at the moment. Great memories that will last forever! I will say that I am glad to be home....although I miss my pain medication!

Oh Steph, I'm sorry you had all that pain. I know how you feel, not the pushing part though. I'm glad everything went well and that you are home and doing well. Good luck with the two.

I'm so glad you posted your story, it always is so fun to hear about the hours before the baby is actually born...not fun because you were in so much pain of course...but neat to hear how it all happens, especially since I don't have any kids yet. I'm glad that everything went so well and that you and the baby are so healthy. That is really too bad that the epideral didn't work right but I'm glad it's all over now. Congrats...you're amazing!

Oh no fun! I hope that you are able to recover quickly and get back to the bump and grind of life with your two kiddos! Isn't it crazy that you have 2 kids? I still look at mine in amazement!

That stinks that you had to wait so long for a bed it sounds like you had a rough one. My Haley story kinda sounds the same my epidural wore off right before I started pushing and it stunk!! Congrats on the beautiful new addition to the family!

Congratulations! I'm sorry natural was SO horrible for you, I actually prefer it that way, because when it's all over, you can just focus on your beautiful new baby. See, you were so tough and you did it! Amazing! I bet you're SO glad he's here. He's awfully cute!

I had that same epideral thing happen with one of my babies. It was horrible but I still loved every minute of it! It seemed as if the pain was concentrated so hard on the one side, I seriously thought I was going to die!
