Signing!

I was talking with my mom (grandma Payzant) on the phone yesterday about Brampton and the progress he has made in signing. She asked me what signs he knows and I started to name off several. Once the conversation ended, I realized that I had forgotten to tell her many of them. I was curious as to how many he actually knows...so I started to write them all down. I was amazed!!! Come to find out he knows about 98 different signs (with more added daily). At Christmas he was using only 3 signs (more, milk, and please). I can't believe how far he has come in such a short amount of time! I truly am counting my blessings. I am truly grateful for Signing Time!!! We would be going through lots of whining and fits if it weren't for these great videos (we purchased 4 in January)!

*A little side note...Brampton has met with the speech therapist twice now and he has already made lots of improvement. We have noticed that he'll copy a lot of the things we say and do (very important). He even babbles more. He is moving his tongue and using his mouth more to make different sounds (much better than his grunting days). I am so glad that he is already improving!!! This morning he even woke up singing!! Ahh...I love it! There's nothing better than a happy little boy in the mornings.

That's awesome! Way to go Brampton!! I LOVE the signing time videos. We borrowed one when Hannah was little. I didn't want to pay for them but I should! We haven't used them with Hannah but thanks for reminding me how much I like them!

This is really cool. Did you and Evan have any previous experience sign language?

We didn't really have a ton of experience with ASL. I did take a class at BYU and I loved it. I learned so much and decided then that I wanted to teach all my kids for fun! It has great benefits. Little did I know that I would truly have to teach it b/c of a speech delay.

That is SO exciting. I am a true believer of signing with babies. I think it cuts out a lot of frustration for both parent and child. We were really good with Josh, but have been kind of lazy with the other two. Avery understands some basic signs, but won't do them back to me. I like being able to "talk" with my kids even if they don't use words, it still helps!

I've heard good things about those videos too. I saw it on TV a couple months ago and was impressed with what I saw.

I bet you are on cloud nine after counting up all those signs Brampton can do. That really is the best news!! Way to go little man!!
