...or so we think. We wanted to go check out last minute things about our apartment and just get away. It was sure fun. We drove down and back all in the same day (yeah, we're pretty crazy). Well...Saturday started out very early. We woke up about 4:30 am to leave at 5am. Galveston is about 5 hours from Fort Worth. Brampton did really well on the trip (he always does)! He was pretty good about just watching videos and playing with toys. We did break it up. On the way to Galveston, we stopped at the Sam Houston Visitors Center and Monument in Huntsville, TX. We always pass it and want to stop but never have. So we finally did. This guy is huge! I am not sure if you can see Brampton and I at the bottom of the first picture...but that's us. The
lil' dude had fun getting out and walking around. Here are some of our fun pics.
That sign is so cool! It reads...Free ride in a police car if you shoplift from this store.
We have been to Galveston 4 times...and I have always wanted to ride one of these. We finally made time to do so. They are so popular! All the tourists do it...it's cool to see everyone riding them around. It is hard work though...we were pooped after our hour was up. You can rent them for several hours and you can pretty much go where ever you want. They have all different sizes depending on how many is in your group. Brampton loved his little seat (yes, he is buckled in...you just can't tell). He was sure a good helper...he held on to the brake the whole time.
This is something I am super excited about!!!!! Yep...you read it right...there's a Dippin' Dots on the island!!!!! That's my favorite (especially the Banana Split). I thought I would share a bit about Galveston...being that not too many people seem to know much about it. Yes, it's an island off the coast of Texas. It's 32 miles long and 2 1/2 miles wide. It is about 40 minutes from the 4th largest city in the United States-Houston. Some of it's attractions are: harbor tours offering dolphin watching; Lone Star Flight Museum; Moody Gardens (coolest place ever) featuring a 1.5 million-gallon aquarium pyramid, a 3-D IMAX theater, tropical rainforest pyramid, and an IMAX Ridefilm Theater; and the new year-round Schlitterbahn Waterpark (super cool!!) Oh...and there are several cruise lines that take off from here too. That is just some of the fun stuff to do...there so much more! Now...if that is not enough to make you want to come and visit us you'll be missing out!!
Oh...and some of the places I am excited about (I was a little worried that it wouldn't have some of the necessities-in no particular order)...Walmart, Target, Ross, Marshalls, Payless, Big Lots, Papa Johns, Blockbuster, Wendy's, Rainforest Cafe, Home Depot, Sonic, Chili's, Pier 1 Imports, Bank of America, Dollar Store, and much more. And yes, we have our own chapel on the island. There is one ward and a Spanish branch. We saw the Chapel and it is nice and a pretty big size. We are thankful for that and look forward to many opportunities to serve and do missionary work.
